Summary

This browser extension works on your device when you click its icon on a YouTube video page. It does not create accounts, does not collect analytics, and does not send your data to our servers (we do not operate a backend for this extension). On Mac it opens the current ChatGPT desktop app via codex:// deep links (not ChatGPT Classic).

What the extension does

• Reads the open YouTube watch page to get the video title and available captions/transcript.
• Copies the transcript text to your system clipboard.
• Opens the ChatGPT Mac app via a codex:// deep link (or chatgpt.com as fallback) with a short prompt that includes the video title.
• Shows a brief on-page status message and an icon badge while working.

Data handled on your device

• Video title and author — taken from the YouTube page / player data.
• Caption/transcript text — fetched from YouTube caption sources available for that video, then placed on your clipboard.
• Clipboard — used only to store that transcript so you can paste it into ChatGPT.

The extension does not permanently store this data in its own database. Clipboard contents remain under your OS clipboard until you overwrite them.

Permissions (why they are used)

• activeTab / scripting — run only on the tab you click from, to read captions and show status.
• Host access to youtube.com — request caption tracks for the current video.
• clipboardWrite — copy the transcript for pasting.

Third parties

• YouTube / Google — caption and page data come from YouTube while you use youtube.com. Their policies apply.
• ChatGPT / OpenAI — if you paste the transcript into ChatGPT or open ChatGPT through the extension, that content is processed under OpenAI’s terms and privacy policy. The extension does not upload the transcript to OpenAI by itself; you paste it (or send it in the ChatGPT UI).

Children

The extension is not directed at children under 13. Do not use it with personal data of children if that would violate applicable law.

Changes

If this policy changes, the “Last updated” date above will be revised. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
